Holiday Travelers beware, Nearly 100 People Missing Flights at Sacramento Airport

As the Holiday season is approaching the Sacramento airport transportation security administration is reminding passengers. About what they can and what they can’t bring with them at the Plan. Can I bring that jigsaw? No. That gun? Absolutely not!

To make sure more security TSA has started a new security system. Well, it has been good for far with the security but this system has caused many people to miss their flights on Sacramento airport. Last week dozens of people miss their flights at Sacramento Airport and long security lines at the airport are the main reason.

The officials say that the situation could get worse as the holiday season approaches. A few weeks ago at SMF, a new enhanced security system started for more security at the airport. But the downside is that it is taking more than expected time. Due to which nearly 100 people were not able to catch their flights.

When Airport officials were asked about this issue. According to them, a new security system is just a part of the problem, the bigger problem they faced was the people. Several weeks ago, the Transportation Security Administration started requiring travellers take all electronics larger than a cellphone out of carry-on luggage.

This whole security problem was going to take a lot of time that is why all the passengers were requested to arrive at airport two hours before their flight time. It was also mentioned that new security check procedures are not alone to blame it was a personnel shortage as well.

According to Officials

In a press release this summer, TSA noted, “This simple step helps TSA officers obtain a clearer X-ray image.”

The federal security director for TSA in Sacramento, Hanna said the airport security administration has been using this new system for the past few weeks.  The staff has been successfully handling the new system. However, this delayed security checks problem has occurred in Terminal A mainly.

There currently is room for only five security checkpoint lanes, and those lanes have gotten more crowded as airlines add morning flights. Hanna said TSA and airport officials are talking about ways to reconfigure the checkpoint area to make room for more lanes. At the terminal, security lines are uncrowded at 4: AM but as the fliers start to arrive for early morning flights it becomes very crowded.

Last year at the SMF the passengers were asked to take books, foods and other stuff out of their bags for checking for security. Because sometimes the Luggage is so densely packed and X-ray machine is not able to check and pass the security step.
